What is FSSAI ?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a government body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, established to regulate and supervise food safety across the country. FSSAI ensures that the food you produce, process, distribute, or sell is safe, hygienic, and meets quality standards defined under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Whether you’re starting a small kitchen or running a multi-city food chain, having an FSSAI license or registration is not just a legal requirement—it’s a symbol of trust for your customers. It builds credibility and opens doors to growth, partnerships, and consumer confidence

Types of Fssai license

There are three types of FSSAI license :-

Who Needs a FSSAI License ?

If you're involved in any kind of food business—whether big or small, profit-driven or charitable, public or private—you are legally obligated to register or get licensed under the FSSAI. It doesn’t matter if you’re manufacturing, processing, packaging, storing, transporting, distributing, importing, or selling food (or even just food ingredients)—you fall under the definition of a Food Business Operator (FBO).

Under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations, 2011, it is compulsory to obtain an FSSAI Registration or License before starting operations.

📌 In simple terms:

If food is your business, FSSAI is your responsibility.

Operating without one not only puts your business at risk of legal penalties but also sends the wrong message to your customers.

Don’t take that chance—get registered the right way, today.

Renewal of License

Every FSSAI license or registration has a validity of 1 to 5 years. It must be renewed at least 30 days before expiry. Failure to do so can lead to heavy penalties or even cancellation of the license.

Modification of License

If there’s any change in your business—be it your business name, address, product category, ownership, contact details, or introducing an additional kind of business—it must be updated in your FSSAI license to keep it valid and accurate.

Why Is FSSAI License Important  ?

In the food business, trust is everything—and nothing builds that trust more than having a valid FSSAI License. Whether you’re a small vendor or a large-scale manufacturer, obtaining an FSSAI license is not just a legal formality—it’s a smart business move that opens up growth opportunities and boosts your brand credibility.
